Stonechat

Passeriformes | Turdidae | Thrushes

A stocky little bird, typically seen on exposed perches on bushes or overhead wires, scolding intruders with insistent, tetchy notes.

The Stonechat is a bird of rough heaths and slopes, moors and hillsides with plenty of gorse, tall bushy heather, and small shrubs. Its name comes from the hard, chacking calls it makes. Should you walk close to a Stonechat’s nest, you will be scolded with endlessly repeated, agitated calls.

Quite a rare visitor to the Basin.
