Song thrush

Passeriformes | Turdidae | Thrushes

A small, neat, spotted thrush, with a rather plain head pattern and neat, V-shaped spots underneath. Loud, bright, repetitive, challenging song.

While Song Thrushes that breed in the shrubberies and hedges of parks and gardens do well, those that live on intensively farmed land find too little food and too few nest sites, and have been in steep decline for some time. They are justifiably garden favourites, with a most vigorous, energetic song that can include notes of unmatched clarity and purity.

Resident and passage migrant. In autumn it could be seen on the elder tree in front of the visitor centre’s windows.
