Robin

Passeriformes | Petroicidae | Australasian robins

An unmistakable bird in adult plumage, bright when fresh but fading during the summer; juveniles without red are less distinctive but have same alert, intelligent character.

Robins are bold and confiding in Britain, but much less so elsewhere in Europe where they tend to be quite shy. They like deciduous or mixed woods, spruce, parkland with plentiful trees and, in Britain, gardens, avoiding wide open spaces.

Common resident of the reserve. Breeds locally.
