House martin
Passeriformes | Hirundinidae | Swallows and martins
A small black-and-white aerial bird, with triangular wings and a forked tail. Its blackish upperparts, marked by a broad white rump, are distinctive. It flies high, with fluttery or flickering wings between short glides.
Abundant in the clean air over unpolluted towns and villages, House Martins breed throughout Europe. They are especially numerous above old Mediterranean towns.
Sightings
House martins tend to nest nearby the Montrose Basin Visitor Centre, and can occasionally be seen throughout their breeding season or as they are beginning their migration in late Summer/early Autumn.
