Jay

Passeriformes | Corvidae | Crows and jays

A colourful, elusive, sometimes noisy bird, it is most obvious when collecting and transporting acorns in autumn.

Bold, noisy, beautiful and, in the main, unfairly persecuted, the Jay is an intriguing species. In most forests it is wild and shy, justly so as the gamekeeper is against it. In gardens and park however it may become more approachable if it is left alone.

UK resident. Rare visitor to the reserve.
