Glossy ibis

An elegant, slim-bodied, long-winged, blackish marsh bird with long legs and curved bill. It is often in small groups.
A bird of lakesides, deltas and rivers flanked with quagmires and swamps of wet vegetation, the Glossy Ibis in chiefly found in south-east Europe. Its habitat is often destroyed or fragmented so its numbers and distribution fluctuate considerably. The birds often fly between feeding and roosting areas at dawn and dusk, frequently in mixed flocks with egrets.
Sightings
Mega vagrant. First seen at the Basin in early summer 2016. Non UK resident, breeds in Europe. UK sightings are increasing.
