Brent goose

Anseriformes | Anatidae | Ducks, geese, swans

The Brent goose is a small, chunky, dark goose, with a black breast, all dark head and small neck patches.

Although scarcely longer than Mallards, Brents look bigger and heavier, and a big flock makes a fine sight. In recent decades they have increased and have also taken much more to feeding on farmland adjacent to the estuaries.

A rare visitor to the Montrose Basin, sometimes spotted amongst large flocks of Pink-footed geese.
