Coal tit

Passeriformes | Parade | Tits and chickadees

Miniature, acrobatic bird of conifers, often visiting garden feeders; bold white patch on back of head diagnostic.

Tiny, almost Goldcrest-like, lacking bright colours but with boldly patterned plumage, the Coal Tit is a charming little bird. It prefers conifer trees, principally spruce, and is far less common in deciduous woods.

Common resident and passage migrant. Often seen from the visitor centre.
